SHADOW-FAX*

ShadowFax is a 9-10 yr old neutered male who was grossly overweight when he came into the NEMA rescue.  He is now at a healthy weight and ready to find his forever home.  Because of his former problem with weight, he needs to be fed two meals a day and kept to a healthy diet.  He is good with other dogs and with children.  Cats are unknown.  He is available through the Norwegian Elkhound Minutemen Association.  Click here to visit their website and download the adoption agreement or email Nancee for more information.

Zen, short for Zendaya in honor of the Disney channel star, is young, lively, ready to dance and loves to share time with people.   Her age is said to be under 2 yrs old and her energy level would support that as well as her excellent physical condition.   She is long and tall (probably part shepherd) and photographs more like an elkhound from the front than the back.  Her face shows her elkie charm and her body and shape reflect her other genetic contributions.  Something of an escape artist, she can leap a 4 foot x-pen if the desire is there.   It was when she had to potty on her first overnight in PA, so she has housebreaking instincts (if not actual experience).   She was a stray in FL (probably not for long) and is HW negative and up to date on shots.   She appears to be good with other dogs and excited to meet them.   No experience with cats yet.   This very agile girl would be a terrific agility candidate!   Once she knows you, she loves to be with you.   She is being fostered in NJ while she is looking for a home, securely fenced, with people who understand a young, active and intelligent dog with a desire to run and have fun.   If that is you, please click here to fill out an application to adopt her.

DAKOTA

Dakota is a 6 yr old spayed female who was surrendered after her family had twins.  Dakota is a petite girl who is frightened by new things and sudden movements.  She would be best as an only dog in a quiet loving adult home.  Once she knows you, she seeks you out and cuddles for protection. RONBO

Ron, for short, is a young neutered male who was found as a stray in WV.  He is a handsome boy who may be about 2 years old.  He LOVES to run so needs to go to a home with a large, securely fenced yard and people who know just how clever an elkhound can be if he wants to get out.  He is fairly new in rescue and has been in a kennel run, which he keeps clean.  He has not interacted with other dogs since he came to us but the person who helped him in WV said he was good with his 5 dogs (Boston Terrier, Pug, Terrier mix, Italian Greyhound and a Greyhound).   He isn't used to a leash and is afraid when approached by other dogs on lead.   He has not met cats.   Ron is a vagabond at heart and would love to have an active person to call his own.   If you would like to see how Ron would fit into your life, please click here to fill out an application to adopt.

BANDIT

Bandit is a young spayed female about 4 years old.  She came to us from the south where she was surrendered to a shelter due to her owner having a life-threatening accident.  Bandit was traumatized by the shelter environment and came into rescue.   She is a shy girl who acts slightly aggressive when scared. Once she knows that you are not going to harm her, she is a snuggle bug.  She is not good with other dogs, mostly reacting out of fear.   Someone who understands and can help her fear aggression tendencies is the person she needs.   She does well at the boarding kennel and feels protected by the fenced runs which keep her safe from other dogs.   She loves the people who care for her and doesn't take long to trust.   When meeting Bandit, you need to let her come to you.  Bandit needs an adult home with no other pets where she can enjoy her people.   If you are interested in providing her with a nurturing environment and helping her overcome her fears, please click here to fill out an adoption application.   Oh yes, forgot to mention that Bandit loves to ride in a car!

Smokie is a sweet boy, maybe 8 yrs old, who needs to go into just the right home environment.  Blind in one eye, he may see shadows in the other.  His sight impairment appears to have been developing for a while.  For that reason, he needs a patient family willing to learn or accustom to dealing with this handicap because he will need to get adjusted to a new environment.  A calm and gentle canine companion might be good for him as well.  If you are looking for a special dog who needs you, please click here to fill out the adoption application and mention his name.
